SHERYN LONG as BELINDA BLAIR
The theatre bug hit me at age 12 when I played the ‘Artful Dodger’ in our secondary school musical. Since this enlightening cross-gender experience I continued to tread the boards throughout my school and University life. I’ve always had a passion for musicals as it combined my love of singing and acting. Amateur theatre is one of the best hobbies one can take on. I mean where else do you get to pretend you’re someone else, meet some lifelong likeminded friends and make people smile (hopefully). Although I’ve played numerous amateur theatre roles over the years my favourites would have to Annie (Annie get your Gun), Ado Annie (Oklahoma), Sally (Me and My Girl) and the Fairy Godmother in ‘Cinderella’. The last musical was particularly special for me as I shared the stage with my family.
Over the years I’ve sung in a Jazz and Blues band as well as dabbled with an eclectic mix of music in our little band ‘Silhouette’ or ‘After Dark’. There’s no better feeling than getting those intricate harmonies just right.
My work as Educational Speech Pathologist also allows me to indulge occasionally in the ‘theatre world’, much to my students’ amusement.
When I’m not singing, acting or working you’ll possibly find me on the tennis court, walking briskly “anywhere” or wining and dining with friends and family.
‘Noises Off’ is my second venture into drama. My first straight acting role as the meddling Mrs Bennett in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ certainly whet my appetite for plays. This very exuberant comedy is stretching my acting skills as I’m finding it sooo difficult taking on the role of the theatre “gossip’. Great bunch of people to work with, it’s a tough gig but so rewarding.
You simply do not want to miss out on this hilarious farce with some of Bendigo’s finest performers.
